Compari stays perfect with wire-to-wire win in $150,000 Grade II Arcadia Handicap!

Compari might have run his best race yet Saturday, extending his win streak to six by taking the $150,000 Grade II Budweiser Arcadia Handicap at Santa Anita.

Compari (Redattore) out of the Dixieland Band mare Southern Charm, was bred by owners Harris Farms, Don Valpredo and John Nicoletti, was foaled at Harris Farms and is trained by Martin Jones.

"He’s improved so much, he’s just a cool dude now," said jockey Garrett Gomez. "I mean, we went the half in 47 and two and it felt like 50. He’s like a sprinter slowing ‘em down.

"Around the far turn, I knew they were backed up behind me and I knew there was somebody down inside and I could hear Trevor saying somebody was ‘crying out for room,’ but I didn’t know it was Battle of Hastings. When we turned for home he just dropped his head and went. He’s just an awesome miler right now."

Compari has six wins in seven starts, earnings of $422,640 and was coming off a win in the Feb. 28 Crystal Water. He ran the mile on turf in 1:34.03 and won by one-half length as the lukewarm 2-1 favorite.

Jones mentioned the Woodford Reserve (Grade I, $500,000, 1 1/8 miles on turf at Churchill Downs on May 1) and the Shoemaker Mile (on turf, Grade I, $250,000 at Hollywood Park on May 31) as possibilities for Compari’s next race.
