Unzip Me Gets Monrovia Money

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2011) – California-bred win machine Unzip Me sprinted away in the stretch to win Sunday’s $100,000 Grade III Monrovia Handicap for fillies and mares at Santa Anita.

Unzip Me is by City Zip, out of the Arazi mare Escape With Me, was bred by Harris Farms and Don Valpredo, is owned by Harris Farms, Per Antonsen, Martin Jones and Valpredo and is trained by Jones.

She has 10 wins in 17 starts, earnings of $583,513 and was coming off a third in the Nov. 6 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint against the boys. Four of her wins have come in Grade III stakes.

Sent off the 7-10 favorite, she ran the about 6 furlongs down the hillside turf course in 1:12.72 and won by 1 lengths.

“She’s been a thrill to own,” said Harris. “We’ve bred the last three dams so we’re very familiar with the family.”
