Rob’s Princess an unraced 11yr.old mare by High Brite out of Tomato Paste has found her niche in life, being a polo pony. Polo, the other Sport of Kings, is known as the oldest team sport.

Affectionately known as Spring Fever or just Fever to her owner, she is considered an invaluable part of their team.

I personally witnessed this mare show her stuff on Feb.14, 2010 at the El Dorado Polo Club in Indio, Ca. Owned and ridden by Tania Paneno the two of them were a thrill to watch. They have many accomplishments under their belts, the most recent being the Women’s Challenge Tournament , they won the C Flight scoring 3 goals giving Tania M.V.P. status, they also won consolation prize for the B Flight.

Fever is used as the last chucker horse, which I’m told is considered quite an honor for polo ponies. Her easy going personality combined with speed and agility makes her the perfect polo horse.

In Polo having an athletic horse is very important.

And how important is the horse? It’s commonly thought that 75% to 85% of a player’s game is the horse, and most of the horses playing today are thoroughbreds.

This gives hope for other ex-racehorses not quite fast enough for the track, with proper rehab, and training there are alternate careers for them.

It was especially fun to watch this mare because of the Harris Farms connections. A daughter of High Brite who still stands at Harris Farms ,and Tomato Paste a stakes producing mare owned by John Harris. She has several successful siblings including a full brother High Standards, with earnings over 375,000.

Many thanks to all who made my visit an experience I will never forget.
